TheIndian armed forces have three wings, namely Army, Navy and Air Force. Throughdefence services exams, you can gain entry into one of the three wings ofIndian armed forces. If you want to gain entry into the Indian armed forces, youwill have to qualify one of the defence forces examinations. In this blog, wewill discuss about the two main defence services exams - CDS and NDA.
TheNational Defence Academy (NDA) is the first tri-service academy in the worldand is located at Khadakwasla near Pune in Maharashtra. To gain entry into theNDA, you will have to appear for the NDA exam which is conducted twice a year (inthe months of April and September) by Union Public Service Commission (UPSC).
To gainentry into NDA, candidates have to clear a written exam conducted by the UPSCand following which candidates are called for interview which tests thecandidates on general aptitude, psychology, physical and social skills. Further,the candidates have to clear a physical exam or medical test before the finalselection. An NDA coaching institutecan be really helpful in training candidates for the selection process. Eligibilityfor the NDA exam -
· Onlyunmarried male candidates between the ages of 16.5 years to 19 years areeligible for the exam.
· Aspirantsshould have studied Physics, Mathematics and Chemistry in their intermediateexam
· Aspirantswho have completed intermediate exams or will be appearing can also apply
There isno limitation on the number of attempts to sit for the NDA Exam. Till the timethe candidate is eligible as per the age and other guidelines, he/she canappear for the exam.
CDS or CombinedDefence Services Examination is a gateway to the Indian Defence Forces. It is conductedtwice in a year in the month of May or June and October or November foradmission to the Officers' Training Academy (OTA) in Chennai and the IndianMilitary Academy (IMA) in Dehradun.
UnionPublic Service Commission (UPSC) conducts CDS exam. There are many good CDSE coaching centers which can help inthorough preparation for the exam.If you are considering joining the Indian Defence Forces, you should begin theCDS written exam preparation well in time. Eligibilityfor CDS Exam -
Acandidate applying for the CDS exam must either be -
· Acitizen of India, or
· Asubject of Bhutan, or
· Asubject of Nepal, or
· ATibetan refugee who came over to India before 1st January, 1962 with theintention of permanently settling in India, or
· Aperson of Indian origin who has migrated from Pakistan, Burma, Sri Lanka andEast African Countries of Kenya, Uganda, the United Republic of Tanzania,Zambia, Malawi, Zaire and Ethiopia or Vietnam with the intention of permanentlysettling in India.
